ASIMO is a humanoid robot created by Honda. ASIMO is designed to be a futuristic helping robot and is expected to do many of the things that humans are able to do. ASIMO stands for "Advanced Step in Innovative MObility". The original ASIMO robot was created in Japan at a Honda research plant. There are currently over 100 known ASIMO units.
In March 2009, Honda unveild a new form of robotic control technology called "brain machine interface" (BMI), which allows users to control an ASIMO unit using a sensor-net which reads subtle changes in a person's cerebral blood flow and electrical impulses directly from the controller's scalp. The new tool allows users to navigate with a robot using only their thoughts.TG Daily: Honda controls robot with human thought (March 31, 2009)

ASIMO has several features that enable the robot to interact with humans. The robot can detect humans, find a human out of a group of humans and will even stop if another human crosses its path. ASIMO can also recognize facial features of humans and can also recognize moving objects and even interact with these objects. Once the facial features of a person is recognized, ASIMO can then address the person by name. ASIMO is also able to distinguish sounds and other verbal commands given to him. Some of the advanced features include the ability to greet guests and can even tell you the weather and various other information that can be found on the Internet. However, these advanced features require that ASIMO be hooked up to a computer network. -
