Ashlee Simpson is an American pop singer and actress. She began her acting career on the television series 7th Heaven. Since then, she has released three studio albums. Her latest album, Bittersweet World, was released in April of 2008.

Simpson was born in Waco, Texas, on October 3, 1984. She is the daughter of former Baptist youth minister Joe Simpson, who is now her manager. Her mother is Tina Ann Drew, who is a former Sunday school teacher. Her big sister, Jessica Simpson is also a singer and actress.

Simpson started studying dance at the age of three. At the age of 11, she was admitted to the School of American Ballet in New York City. She landed a reoccurring role on the family series 7th Heaven, playing Cecilia Smith.

After recording the song "Just Let Me Cry" for the Freaky Friday soundtrack, Simpson signed a deal with Geffen Records.

Simpson's first album, Autobiography, debuted at number one in 2004 in the U.S.. In the first week, she sold approximately 398,000 copies of her CD.
