    The story of its history involved the murder of an early settler (Samuel Davidson) by members of a Cherokee tribe; the victim's brother William sought revenge for Samuel's killing and ended up settling in what would become Asheville when his task was complete.

    Asheville often receives praise for being one of the happiest and most desirable cities in the United States, including a Frommer's list that called it one of the top 7 places to live in the country. Although there are no major professional sports teams, locals can root for the University of North Carolina athletics department. Some famous residents of Asheville include Andie MacDowell, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Roberta Flack.
