  • Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. was an American political philosopher and author.
  • Career

Schlesinger is perhaps best remembered as a special adviser and historian to President John F. Kennedy during his term in office. Schlesinger was reportedly one of only two in Kennedy's circle who opposed the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, but remained silent only to not undermine Kennedy.

Schlesinger's detailed accounts of Kennedy's presidency in his 1965 book A Thousand Days: John F. Kennedy in the White House earned Schlesinger the 1965 National Book Award and his second Pulitzer Prize in 1966. His writings mainly explored American liberalism, and critically analyzed American politics.

In his later years, Schlesinger blogged for the Huffington Post until he died of cardiac arrest on February 28, 2007.
