Stadium History
Following the Kansas City Chiefs moving to Kansas City in 1963 talks began about building them a new stadium. Construction began on Arrowhead Stadium in 1968, which initially had plans for a the first ever stadium rolling roof. The roof plans were later scrapped after construction was delayed. The stadium was opened on August 12, 1972 as the Chiefs played the St. Louis Cardinals. Originally AstroTurf was used on the playing field, but was replaced with grass in 1994.
