Norwegian author, philosopher and mountaineer Arne Dekke Eide Naess passed away at the age of 96, on Monday, January 12, 2009. Naess, who had written extensively on the concept of 'deep ecology,' was the original chairman of Greenpeace Norway when the chapter was founded in 1988. Naess' son, Arne Naess Jr., died in a mountain climbing accident in 2004. Naess Jr. was the ex-husband of singer Diana Ross.Aftenposten: Arne Naess Jr killed in climbing accident (January 15, 2004)
