On February 19, 2008, Armenia elected Serzh Sargsyan of the Republican Party of Armenia as the country's next president. The Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) is a national conservative party. Founded in 1990, it was the first political party to register after Armenia earned its independence in 1991.
