Armando Iannucci

Armando Iannucci is a Scottish comedian as well as a radio, television and film producer. He rose to fame with the British radio shows On the Hour and The Day Today.

Iannuci was nominated for an Oscar for the 2010 Academy Awards. He was nominated for Writing (Adapted Screenplay), along with Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, and Tony Roche.

In the Loop is based on Armando Iannucci’s BBC sitcom, The Thick of It. The film follows the mishaps of a crisis in the Middle East of the course of a few days in conversations and meetings. Though a comedy, the movie shows how most minor factors and people can change the course of history. Peter Capaldi as Director of Communications for the British Prime Misters is funny as a cursing politician. Mimi Kennedy shares a heartfelt performance as an antiwar U.S. diplomat. She has several touching and funny scenes with James Gandoliini who plays a U.S. General. Career and Personal Life

Armando’s father is from Naples, Italy will his mother is from Glasgow, Scotland. His father came to Scotland in 1950 and ran a pizza factory. Armando was born in Scotland and has two brother and a sister. He went to school at St. Peter’s Primary School, St. Aloysius’ College, Glasbow, the University of Glasgow and University College, Oxford.

Although he has been deeply involved in British comedy as a producer, writer and performer, Iannucci is not well known to the British public. His early projects include Smokehammer, Gash,and Mobiles Off!. In 1997, he wrote a book entitled Facts and Fancies which was a compilation of articles from his newspaper columns. There were then turned into a BBC Radio 4 series. More recent work includes The Thick of It which he devised, directed and was chief writer of and was based on Tony Blair’s former Press Secretary Alastair Campbell. Time Tumpet a spoof documentary series and directed the Post Office.

Iannucci revealed in early May of 2009 that while researching for his latest film, In The Loop, he managed to get past security guards at the US State department with just an "amateurish BBC pass" made from a photo of him printed off of Google. He stated that during his hour visit at the State department, he walked around and took photos in which were later used for designing the film's set.Telegraph: Comedian sneaks into US State department (May 8, 2009)
