Arlo Guthrie

  • Arlo Guthrie is a folk musician and singer-songwriter whose humorous takes on everyday life, politics and the world have earned him a unique place in music history.

As the son of legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie's career in music began early. His 1967 debut record Alice's Restaurant spawned a hit song of the same the name. The 18-minute song is part Vietnam War protest and part ambling monologue about Thanksgiving Dinner at Alice Brock's restaurant in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The album also spawned a 1969 film starring Guthrie as himself.

Guthrie is also known for his recordings of Steven Goodman's "City of New Orleans" and his own "Motorcycle Song."

Over the course of his career, Guthrie has been joined in performance by other folk and country artists including Pete Seeger, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson and Judy Collins.
