During the Fall 2010 general election, Arizona citizens voted for Governor, one senate seat, 8 House of Representative seats, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, Corporation Commissioner and Superintendent of Public Instruction. The citizens also voted on 10 major ballot measures.
Incumbent Jan Brewer held on to her Governor's position, despite sharp swings in her public approval ratings due to tax increase proposals and illegal immigration measures. Republicans Gosar, Franks, Quayle, Schwikert and Flake won House seats for districts 1, 2, 3,5 and 6 respectively. Pastor (D) took a commanding lead to win district 4's House seat. Secretary of State was held by incumbent Ken Bennett (R). With over 50% reporting, Tom Horne (R) is leading for Attorney General, Doug Ducey (R) is leading for Treasurer, Brenda Burns (R) and Gary Pierce (R) both won seats for Corporate Commissioner and John Huppenthal (R) won for Superintendent of Public Instruction.http://elections.nytimes.com/2010/results/arizona
On the major ballot measures, the attack on the federal health care law, measure 105 was approved which prevents mandated health care. The right for a secret ballot for unionization and no preferential treatment based on sex and race were also approved. The constitutional right to hunt and fish, have the lieutenant governor replace the secretary of state, transfer of "land conservation fund" to the general fund and the termination of early childhood programs were defeated. A video looking at the life of Jan Brewer both before and after she became Arizona Governor. Jan says her mother was her role model. The video describes how Jan became more and more interested in politics while her sons were at school. A school board meeting further encouraged Jan and today she is Arizona's governor.
