Ares is not a major character in the mythology of ancient Greece and has the most appearances and greatest role in The Iliad, the epic poem about the Trojan War.http://www.wsu.edu/~delahoyd/greek.gods.html The focus of his days was to engage in combat and violence, and this is the part that he plays in the battle between the Trojans and Greeks detailed in the poem. He is said to have fathered Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, and it is because of this that he is thought to come to Rome's aid in times of need.http://www.windows2universe.org/mythology/Definitions_gods/Mars_def.html

Ares and Aphrodite were engaged in an adulterous relationship. Although they tried to conceal it, it was discovered. Aphrodite's husband Hephaestus, was very suspicious of them. When he was eventually told of Ares and Aphrodite's relationship by Helios, the god of the sun, Hephaestus set out to capture the two in the act of adultery. He devised a trap that could be hid in the bed that the couple used. While in the act of adultery, the trap was sprung and they could not get out. Hephaestus invited the other gods to come look at the couple and witness their adulterous relationship.https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/prec/www/course/mythology/0400/aphrodite.htm
