  • April Fools Day History

April Fools Day is known in some cultures as All Fools Day. It is celebrated on April 1 in most countries. Historically, it is believed that the holiday began in France. Until the 16th century, the new year had been celebrated in conjunction with the vernal equinox between March 25 and April 1. With the adoption of the Gregorian calendar, King Charles IX of France decreed in 1564 that the new year would be celebrated on the first of January.

The people that refused to celebrate the new year on January 1 and continued to celebrate it spring were thought to be simple-minded and were called "April Fools." Jokes, pranks, and hoaxes were played on them, and the gullible were sent on "Fool's Errands" similar to snipe hunts.
  • April Fools Day Search Pranks

    1. Suspicious Search: Send someone to find a mythical item. Some office staples to find are the double-sided transparencies and dehydrated water for that important meeting. Those that work with tools will desperately need the hydraulic cement humidifier, a fallopian tube, the blunt knife and a glass hammer to survive the day.
    2. AWOL Wordsearch: Use a wordsearch generator to create a wordsearch with all the words misspelled except for April Fools. Create the list with the words spelled correctly; victims will only find April Fools in the puzzle correctly, while repeatedly almost finding all the rest of the words on the list.
    3. Roundabout Round-up: Develop a scavenger hunt with clues leading to each subsequent item. Write the clues so that the hunter ends up going through the same route again and again. Enjoy the fun until they realize what's going on.
