The Apple Store online is a web-based retailer of Apple products. Launched in 1997, the store offers Apple merchandise and accessories. Users of the online store can order merchandise online or by phone. In contrast to Apple retail stores, whose products are subject to availability, the online store can receive orders and ship products from multiple locations.
The retail version of the Apple Store sells computers, electronics and other Apple related merchandise. Owned and operated by Apple Inc., Apple retail stores have grown steadily since their 2001 debut. To date, Apple has 219 stores, both in the U.S. and abroad.
