Guide Not
Antonio Vivaldi was a celebrated Italian composer of baroque classical music.
Life
Antonio Vivaldi was born in Venice in 1678 and worked for 30 years as choirmaster in an orphanage for girls. It was evident that Vivaldi, even at a young age, was musically gifted. His father began teaching him the violin and the two toured Venice together. The composer Giovanni Legrenzi saw the potential in young Vivaldi and took him under his wing. Legrenzi had Vivaldi composing works by the age of 13. Vivaldi was ordained as a priest at the age of 25, that same year he was also named the Master of Violin at the Ospedale della Pieta orphanage. During his time at the orphanage he wrote most of his 500 concertos, the most widely recognized are "The Four Seasons" in 1725. Vivaldi died July 28, 1741 of an internal infection.
