Antonio Cromartie is a professional football cornerback for the San Diego Chargers of the NFL.
Cromartie, despite not playing football for an entire year before the NFL Draft, was taken by the San Diego Chargers with the 19th selection in the first round in 2006.
Cromartie has experienced both trials and tribulations in the NFL from both personal and football standpoints. He has shown great potential on the field, as a game changing, ball- hawking cornerback but hasn't shown enough of that as he has been largely inconsistent. Whispers inside the Charger locker room question his toughness and commitment to football. With all that being said, Cromartie put together a dominant 2007 season intercepting 10 passes and deflecting another 18 as he broke onto the NFL scene. One of Cromartie's highlights that season came at the expense of Peyton Manning, as Cromartie became the first person to intercept Manning three times. In the postseason, Cromartie intercepted Tom Brady twice. That is quite the daily double.
To add to his defensive prowess, Cromartie also recorded the longest play in NFL history returning a missed field goal 108 yards in the Metrodome.

Cromartie suffered through an injury plagued, inconsistent season as his play on the field, and character questions off it (seven kids by six women in five states) ultimately marked his departure in San Diego as the Chargers traded him to the Jets for a 2011 third roundd draft selection. Cromartie was consistently picked on by opposing teams and yet still managed to only catch three passes.
Rex Ryan and the Jets hope that a change of scenery will go wonders of good for Cromartie.
