Antigua is the larger island of the Caribbean nation, of Antigua and Barbuda.
Attractions
Antigua's main attraction is its beaches. There are over 300 located throughout the island, and most, if not all are open for public use. If you're looking for a "resort" beach, then the beaches on the northwest coast are perfect; Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay are two that are recommended by the tourism board.
Shirley Heights is also popular among visitors and locals for it's "breathtaking" views and Sunday afternoon barbecue, which is full of socializing, drinks and Reggae music.
Activities
Some of the major activities in Antigua are fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling. There are various fishing charter companies that take anglers out on deep sea fishing expeditions; marlin and tuna are some of the main, "big-game" fish that are sought.
Snorkeling] and scuba diving in the reefs along the coastline is also very popular among tourist. The waters are clear and calm, making conditions perfect for these water-sports. Most tour operators offers instructions and equipment rentals.
