Anthony Weiner Makes Twitter Scandal Worse
New York congressman Anthony Weiner is making his five-day-old "Weinergate" scandal worse. On Tuesday, May 31, 2011, Weiner lost his cool when addressing reporters in Washington regarding the scandal—in which a photo of a man's erection was posted on his Twitter account to a young girl.c Questions still swirl regarding why the 46-year-old, married representative was following a 21-year-old Seattle girl on Twitter and why he has not pursued a criminal investigation if he was, in fact, the victim of hacking as he alleges.c
Weiner repeatedly insisted, despite the reporters' persistence, to steer the conversation towards the national debt limit. When addressing CNN correspondent Dana Bash, a visibly annoyed Weiner said, "You do the questions, I do the answers, and this jackass interrupts me. How about that as the new rule of the game?... I know this is how the game is played. Some people decide they want to talk about this thing for days and days. I choose not to."c
The "jackass" was CNN congressional producer Ted Barrett. According to Bash, if the Capital Police are not investigating the hacking allegation, it's because Weiner did not ask them to. Most of the Twitter users Weiner follows are journalists, politicians and celebrities. The rest are young, attractive women—a fact that has raised some eyebrows.c
