Anthony Parker is a shooting guard in the NBA and plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The main idea behind the shooting guard in the NBA is to be able to get shots off the dribble and have a scorer from the perimeter to accompany any threats a team would have on the inside. Anthony Parker isn't exactly a prototypical shooting guard. His body and frame match that of your normal shooting guard, but he tends to be more of a spot-up shooter. Occasionally Parker is capable of putting the ball on the floor and creating for himself, but most of his game consists of sitting on three point line and helping to spread the floor.
At age 35, Parker has found his way into the NBA game as a serviceable shooting guard. He won’t blow you away with athleticism, but if you leave him open, Parker is more than capable of burning you from distance. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/anthony_parker/index.html
Anthony Parker 2010 Season
Anthony Parker was signed as a free agent last summer by the Cleveland Cavaliers to play the starting shooting guard spot for them. Before picking up Parker the Cavaliers had relied on Delonte West as their starting shooting guard, but West's lack of size for the position pressed them to look for a more tradition player to fill the slot. Anthony Parker is 6'6 and generally shooting guards tend to be 6'4 or taller.
With Parker's acquisition by the Cavaliers, the team gained a major three point threat. Anthony Parker has averaged 41% from the three point line this season. Anytime a player in the NBA can average over 40% from the three point line, they're considered one of the better three point shooters in the league. Along with the three point shot, Anthony Parker has given the Cavaliers the big guard they needed on the perimeter for defense.
Anthony Parker is under contract to the Cavaliers through the 2010-2011 season, so one would expect that he'll be a staple on the Cavaliers for at least one more year.http://www.nba.com/playerfile/anthony_parker/index.html http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/cle/roster
Anthony Parker Early Career
Before signing with the Cavaliers, Anthony Parker played for the Toronto Raptors. For the Raptors, Anthony Parker played basically same role as he now does in Cleveland. His averages were slightly higher in Toronto, but that can be accessed to having less opportunities in Cleveland due to the amount of other talent currently on the roster. Anthony Parker's stay in Toronto lasted three seasons, with his best year coming in the 2007-2008 season when he averaged 12.5 point per game.
Before the Raptors, Anthony Parker had an earlier stint in the NBA in the late 1990's playing for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Orlando Magic. Between his two stops in the NBA, Parker also played in the Euroleague, most prominently in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv.http://www.nba.com/playerfile/anthony_parker/index.html
