Anthony Geary is an American actor who many consider to be the leading man in the world of soap operas. He is the actor who plays the role of Luke Spencer on the daytime drama General Hospital.
Growing Up Geary
Geary was raised in a small community in Coalville, Utah. His father owned the Geary Construction Company, which is now run by his sister. He was a gifted student while attending the University of Utah as a Presidential Award Scholar in theater.
Geared Toward Theater
Jack Albertson saw one of his performances and cast him in The Subject Was Roses.. Geary has performed in over fifty stage productions throughout the United States. Some of his theater credits include The Wild Duck, The Inspector General, The Cat's Paw, The Glass Menagerie and Barabbas.
Tony Tries Television
Geary portrayed Octavious Caesar opposite Lynn Redgrave and Timothy Dalton in Anthony and Cleopatra for PBS and the BBC. He has made numerous appearances on television shows such as Starsky & Hutch, The Six Million Dollar Man. The Partridge Family, Manix, Murder She Wrote, and Room 222.
A Stay In The Hospital
In 1978 Geary joined ABC's daytime soap opera General Hospital playing the role of Luke Spencer. In 1981 his marriage to Genie Francis, who plays the role of Laura Spencer, became one of the most memorable episodes from the series. They became the first power couple of daytime television. One critic said, "Geary's individualism, uniqueness and awesome range is the most notable in daytime television history." In 1981, and four times since, he has won an Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series. He is in second place for most Emmy wins for a single character trailing behind Erika Slezak from One Life to Live.
