You're at a red light getting cash for the homeless man, light turns green, cars blow their horn, he is rushing to you. What do you do?

M$I rarely give money to people in the street, but one woman, in a sari, was begging for money to keep her utilities on and feed her kids. I was in the middle of traffic, the light turned green, and I had to go. I went around the block. She was on the perimeter of a gas station. I pulled into the station, made a purchase in the station's convenience store, gathered together my donation, walked out and gave it to her. In that way, I did not endanger myself, my fellow drivers, or the recipient.

M$If he is talking to you and rushing you, I actually still think that driving off is the best solution. I'd probably apologize as I hit the gas pedal if it makes any difference. Yes, you can go around the block and find him again if you really want to give him money, but I'm also opposed to people asking for money in traffic. It's not the time or the place, and it's not safe either.

M$Don't hold up traffic. Drive through the intersection as normal. By encouraging a person to stand in traffic waiting for you, you're running the risk that he will get hit by a car.
Everything about this situation is dangerous. If you really want to help the homeless, consider making a donation and/or volunteering at a local shelter or soup kitchen.
