your thoughts on solo sail around the world by 14 yr. old Dutch girl Laura Dekker. Should it be allowed?

It already started with controversy, as she had to set sail from Gibraltar, as the Portugese gov. wouldn't let her sail alone in their waters. She will spend two years alone on the boat. She will call in to about 20 ports, and intends to finish the trip in 2012, on her 17th birthday. As a parent myself, I think this is unthinkable!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This is one of the stupidest things in the World. For two years the child gets no formal education and will sit bored on a boat sailing around. This is dangerous as you remember the last little girl that almost got lost. I wonder what the Parents have in their heads to let their kid do something like this.

Thanks for your answer. I was surprised more parents didn't answer this question.

Seems dangerous for anyone. I would have to tell my daughter no. Probably a great experience but so is the National Aquarium and the Inner Harbor.

People should have freedom. My neighbors grandson was going to windsurf from California to Hawaii. He never arrived.
