If it is a technical site, then it might be worthwhile to take out an ad in some technical journals in your field. If it is a dating site then you can get banner ads up on other singles sites.
I'm going to assume it is a shopping site that appeals to a wide range of customers. In this case, I think I would concentrate on one major metropolitan area at a time, and take out radio ads on the two largest radio stations in town, during the morning commute. Only people who are working and have disposable income are likely to be listening then. In the radio ad, explain what your site does and give the domain name, which is hopefully the same as your business name, and catchy.
