It really depends what sort of promise it was. If they had done something like forgotten birthday plans I would be annoyed but eventually I would forgive them. The other thing to consider is why they broke their promise. Did they just forget, have something else on their mind or did they knowingly break their promise. They might ahve been in an emergency situation and could not do whatever you asked them to do.

Regardless I'd find some way to forgive my parents.

I would forgive them. Despite all their faults, my parents have always had my best interest at heart and tried to provide to us. If they can't keep their promise, then there must be something significant preventing them to. My parents' flaws, especially my father, are more about not able to see if he's wrong or if he's treated us wrongly, and also his temper. Concerning that, I can think of several situations that their actions might be unforgivable.

It would depend on the promise and how it affected my life. The reason for it at that point in my life. But in the end you have to forgive your parents.

A broken promise from a parent would probably hurt more than from anyone else; however, parents are human. They, like all people are subject to the same weaknesses.

So, even though I would be prone to personalize my initial reaction, I would then think back to the times that I broke a promise to my parents. If I know my parents, they would be contrite about their transgression and find a way to make amends. Holding a grudge against them is something I cannot see myself doing.

I think with any close relationship problem whether its with your parents, siblings, close friend or partner its going to be difficult to easily forgive something like a trust issue or promise. Just play it slow, and after you've had some time away from them to think about it, at that point you should decide if you can forgive them for it. I don't know the situation, but I would allow some time to judge the situation, and act on it.

Good luck. :)
