April 16: Virginia Tech Massacre: 32 students are killed after a gunman attacks, ending in suicide.
August 15: An 8.0 earthquake shakes Peru, killing 512 people, and injuring thousands more; Tsunami warnings are issued for Pacific Ocean following the quake.
October 8: Olympic track-and-field star, Marion Jones, gives back her 5 medals after admitting to using performance-enhancing drugs at the 2000 Sydney Games.
November 5: The Writers Guild of America goes on strike, halting the production of Hollywood projects for months.
December 27: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, is assassinated in a bomb explosion at a political rally that kills 20 other people.
So many headlines that were difficult to pass up! This was a year of Microsoft launching Vista, multiple plane crashes, rioting in Kenya killing hundreds of people, massive floods in Britain, the resignations of Russian and Japanese prime ministers, and Hurricane Felix!
These above are what I gauged to impact the world the greatest, and that grabbed the most headlines at the time. Hope this helps!

What were the 5 most significant events that happened in the year 2007?
Way back when Mahalo transitioned from 1.0 to 2.0 I lost a few of my year pages, 2007 was one of them, the timeline completely lost. Help me rebuild it by submitting the five most significant events from the year.
Preferably in a short original sentence starting with the date.
Ex: January 4: Nancy Pelosi becomes the first female Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

Oooh, these are some good ones. The Scooter Libby conviction and Al Gore Peace Prize are definitely some good contenders that I hadn't come up with.
Only 5 is so tough! I can't decide which ones on my list I'd give up for those!
