Years before Wikileaks revealed that Putin was Batman, we have this photo posted on the Internet. What is it?

Putin, perhaps around 2005, walking by a logo. It seems to confirm that he is Batman, but can anyone find an alternative explanation?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Waaa. My head hurts. It took me a while to find this, but I think that's one of the logos used by the GRU Special Forces, Spetsnaz (1), or at least it looks very similar to a badge given to one of its groups:

In the Russian Wikipedia page for the GRU, the "Batman logo" does appear among the official ones (2), as "The emblem of the CD GRU". I couldn't find what "CD" stands for but, according to a comment on a Russian webpage (3), the logo belongs to the GRU's counterintelligence branch, which would explain why the Wikipedia .jpg file is called "Emblem_GRU_military_countr_spy_department".

Edit: I was using Google Translate, so it's not "CD", but "КР", which I guess stands for "контрразведки", "counterintelligence" in Russian.

I finally managed to type in what it says on the badge you found a photo of,
СПЕЦНАЗ which Google translates as "Special Mission"

That's Putin visiting the Glavnoye Razvedyvatelnoye Upravlenie(GRU) or main intelligence directorate in November 2006. It's the Russian military's spy agency.

Yes, but that is not the GRU logo, contrary to what a couple of web site comments say.
