It certainly makes a lot more sense. The previous ranking system would punish people for losing thereby eliminating incentive to play. This new system adopts the typical experience gain and the only way to lose points is by exiting a game early.
I think the overhaul is needed. The Trueskill system's kinda wonky I feel, and the proposed more experience based system sounds solid and is the right way for them to go.
