Next Question
I tend to shy away from the Halo games, even though some people swear by them. Here are my favorite games ever:
--Gears of War
With spectacular multiplayer and a third-player control scheme emulated by pretty much everyone on the market, it's hard to go wrong. The sequel is good too, but I count them together.
--The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
N olonger Xbox-exclusive, but this game is out and out amazing. I spent almost 200 hours doing everything there is to do in Oblivion. There's also a massive expansion pack, in addition to several smaller expansions that are interesting and engaging. It packs a great story and spectacular gameplay. Plus it's enormous.
--Fallout 3
Same reasoning as Oblivion, made by the same people, and great for all the same reasons and many other ones. It's more of a first-person shooter than an RPG, but it also is simply massive.
--Mass Effect
I know, another RPG. But yet again, we're talking about a huge game with tons to do. Beyond that, the third-person gunplay isn't bad and the good-evil speech system is pretty entertaining. It's not Knights of the Old Republic, which is in high standing for my favorite game of all time (and worth playing even though it's dated, it's backward-compatible), but it's still an awesome effort. Plus great downloadable content.
--The Orange Box
It's hard to turn down five games, especially five spectacular games like the various Half-Life portions, Portal and Team Fortress. Plus the achievements will keep you busy for a long, long time if you let them.
Those are the games that have kept me the most engaged since I bought my 360. There are plenty of others too, but these were the ones that lasted me the longest. I played Gears of War right up until the sequel came out, for example. Coupled with Xbox Live, some of them are spectacular. Yeah, they're not all exclusive anymore, but Xbox Live makes the most of many of them.

1) Halo 3 (great online play)
2) Bioshock (best single-player game)
3) Gears of War
4) Oblivion
5) Grand Theft Auto IV

1. Oblivion: this is the best bang for the buck game in the platform. At $60 it gave me hundreds of hours of entertainment. It can now be had for under $30, which is insane. It also has a healthy dose of DLC available, all of it really good.
2. Crackdown: this started as a joke prior to Halo 3s launch, because buying Crackdown gave you a direct invite to the Halo 3 beta. A lot of people would joke that they bought their Halo 3 beta code and got Crackdown for free. It is FUN, and the co-op works for real. I can't stress enough how fun this game is.
3. GTA IV: I love this game. I beat it four times, and from time to time still fire it up just to fly around. My 10 yr old boy likes to play it just to fly around. A big DLC is due very soon. This is another of those games with a healthy bang for the buck.
4. Orange Box: Portal was one of the most interesting game ideas to come out in years. The other HL games and TF2 are just icing on the cake... which is a lie.
5. Dead Rising: Another game that just ate hours and hours.

I had to include some that are available on other platforms, otherwise it would just be a list of three. Still, this is just my opinion. Also, though I include GTA IV, the truth is that, while I love the game intellectually, and think it's just beautiful to watch, I rarely feel drawn to play it these days. I'm spending way more time with Fallout 3 (on the PS3) and World of Warcraft (PC). 1) Halo 3 (great online play)
2) Bioshock (best single-player game)
3) Gears of War
4) Oblivion
5) Grand Theft Auto IV

You won't get two people to agree on this, but anyway: 1. Oblivion: this is the best bang for the buck game in the platform. At $60 it gave me hundreds of hours of entertainment. It can now be had for under $30, which is insane. It also has a healthy dose of DLC available, all of it really good.
