As far as I know and in my friend's past experience, it should add to it (this is also in addition to the customer reviews on buy.com, see source below)

If I add a 12 month Xbox Live gold subscription card to my account before my current year has expired, what happens?
I believe my current year expires in June, but Costco had a great deal on a 12 month card that I didn't want to pass up. I'm worried that if I have to wait until June to use it I'll forget about it, but I don't want to 'waste' four months by doing it early either.
If I use the card now does it just append itself on to the end, or what?

It will show under your account that your current subscription is active until it expires, and then your new subscription will go from pending to active. So you won't lose any time, it will activate when your other one expires.
