How do perform the deflect bullet move with focus (LT), the bullet speeds up on me every time I try it in the game Afro Samurai.

This question is pertaining to the Afro Samurai Videogame that came out on the 26th of this month if Im remembering correctly, once I enter focus mode (not overfocus (RB)), I hold the vertical slash button down as well as the Left Trigger button which is required and I wait for a gunman to aim his firearm, then when he fires, I ususally watch for the bullet to get just close enough for a good sword swing to repel it back at him but when I release the button (x), the bullet ends up hitting me instead, all the time!....... Im baffled at how I time it almost perfectly and still I am struck. The other attack similar to this one (bullet reflect) with the LT+Y buttons is a snap for me to do, no problems, LT+X on the other hand... Im sorry if I am getting on anyones nerves with  this question, but it doesn't make sense to me how it isn't working for me and I've tried about every possible alternative to pulling it off.

It's actually horizontal slice, not vertical. The timing is critical and hard to get down.

Wait for the enemy to appear in split screen, wait for about 2 more seconds, and then start holding down the trigger. As soon as you hear the sound of the gunshot, start holding down the Y button. Once the little shimmer gets to the tip of your sword, release the Y button.

wait for the animation to pop up, wait 1 second, hold LT and start to charge the X attack(verticle slice), let go of X(keep holdind LT) when the sword tip sparkles, press and hold X again after the sword comes in contact with the bullet,and hold it until the sword is near AFRO'S waist, then let go of X(not LT) it should sent the bullet back at the bitch with the gun killing him, and getting you an acheivment
