If you're seeing red flashing in the second quadrant, then that probably means your system is overheating. Turn it off and leave it sit for awhile to cool down. To prevent it overheating in the future, make sure it's in a well-ventilated aread and nothing is obstructing the vents.
If any of the other quadrants is flashing, you may have a hard drive failure, which means you need to send your system into MS for repair.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean only one of the quadrants is red? If so which one? If you're seeing red flashing in the second quadrant, then that probably means your system is overheating. Turn it off and leave it sit for awhile to cool down. To prevent it overheating in the future, make sure it's in a well-ventilated aread and nothing is obstructing the vents.

There is one solution that will work temporarily. The red ring can mean that your circuit board has overheated and the leads have "moved". You can lay the unit flat, wrap the unit in a towel and superheat the device so that the leads re-melt back into position. Search online for specific instructions, and be aware that this will only work for a short time (my co-worker tried this and got his box back for a couple weeks before it went red again). And make sure you follow the steps that documented for this process to the letter. If you do not properly overheat the device it will truly be fried.

Short and sweet. There is no such thing as a one red ring of death because it is fixable. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907536 and they will give you all the information you need.
