What tips do you have for writing a personal journal?

My tips are, you need acid-free paper for a journal to survive hundreds of years and a special ink I heard also. So, fyi, I found the world's thickest journal (at $275 plus delivery) but what I end up using is inexpensive kids journals at local department stores.....see links below fyi.
What are your journaling tips? What have you found that is nifty, even if you don't use it!

World's Thickest Journal (on acid-free paper of course)

Archival quality neutral acidity pens

colorful inexpensive journals notebound.com (probably not acid free paper)

To me finding the right pen makes a difference. How it feels in your hand as you write, it can just put you in the mood to write.

Built in book marks- (Or would it be a journal mark??) At least you don't have to thumb through all the pages to find out where you left off. There is nothing worse than reading past entries and realizing that your life is pretty lame. Might as well skip that stuff and get on with it.
