Would you want to try being an ice road trucker?

Now the ice road truckers perform a great service, as I don't think these people could get their goods many other ways that would be economical. You just have to look at the cost of living in Hawaii to know what happens when you have to ship by ship or air most of the supplies that people need. Prices go way up. I think the people that live on the other side of this ice bridge only get their supplies when the ice bridge is there - though I could be wrong. I'm sure there are ways to tell when the ice is not strong enough for a truck but the scary parts to me is having to be in constant motion so the weight of the truck isn't on one spot too long to cause it to fall in. So breakdowns are brutal. I haven't seen an episode of any of the trucks actually falling through the ice - maybe they are there.
Trucking is a tough enough profession without adding the fact that the road you are on might melt while you are traveling. I guess I'm just not a thrill seeker.

M$I can see myself sharing the experience once, but dedicating myself to that profession would subject me to extremes that I know I do not like to bear. Besides, doing it once seems reasonably safe in terms of the odds of having a serious incident. Repeating the action several times a day, week after week, seems like tempting fate too much for my liking.

M$There is no way I could do that! I won't drive on snow at all! Those guys are very gutsy to do that. The money must be really good. Or maybe they are just hooked on the adventure and excitement.

M$Let me just give you a bit of background. Last weekend, it snowed in North Carolina. It's the most snow the state has seen in years. So I was planning on being snowed in for the weekend, but as it turns out, I was called into work Sunday.
Problem was, the roads weren't completely paved yet, so I had to drive on ice. It was my first time ever driving on the ice. Not fun. I didn't skid off the road or anything, but I almost did on about five occasions. At one point, my car got completely stuck in some piled-up snow and I had to get two people to help push me out. It was the most stressful driving experience I've ever had -- even worse than the time I was caught on the highway in a flash flood after midnight (the former most stressful.)
So I would never even consider this. I'd give it a week before I got myself killed. There are some jobs that certain people just aren't cut out to do, and I'm definitely not cut out for this.
