Would you take a job as a corpse salvager?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100110/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_colombia_retrieving_the_bodies

This woman wasn't really even paid for her efforts removing bodies from the river, but, if offered would you take such a job? Why or why not?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My first job out of the AF was working for a crappy private ambulance company who had the ME's contract, so I did pick up bodies for a living. Didn't like it, got minimum wage, but got paid.

As soon as something better came along I grabbed it.

I don't know about the term "corpse salvager"- it has a creepy connotation to it.

Someone has to do it.

No. Never. Absolutely never. One of the more common pieces of career advice that goes around is to "do what you love." There is simply no way that could ever be a job I'd be happy about. The article was written because this person is an obvious exception - no one else would find it worth the effort.

Personally, I would not take the job of corpse salvager. It is just to macabre for me. My performance would be surely affected by my displeasure with the task. Any other job, even one that may require more hours for less pay would be preferable.

To be quite honest how much you make as a corpse remover depends on several factors.

1. Do you work for the county, or for a private company?

2. How much does the county pay versus how much the private company pays?

3. What benefis do you get?

4. Is the pay and benefits that you get an overall good mix?

5. What do you need more, benefits or money?

Take all of this into account before taking this job.

But if it was mostly in my favour, or I had a good reason to take such a job even if it wasn't good; then yes I would take it.

No, I would feel I was disrespecting the dead.Even though they are just the remaining shells of the persons of whom they use to be, the bodies still deserve to be treated with respect. To treat them as just a thing to harvest is degrading and awful.
