It's very unlikely that I'd spend the rest of my life doing a job I hated, whether I was good at it, or bad at it.

But I guess, if we're talking hypothetically, there could be some scenarios when I might. For example...

- If I wasn't good enough at anything else to earn a decent living any other way.

- If I felt it was important the job got done, and no-one else could do it as well as I could.

- If the pay was astronomical, and there was plenty of time left over to do more fulfilling things outside of work.

But back in the real world, those conditions don't apply to me, or to most people. Maybe if you're a Senator or a world-class surgeon or something, you might think you need to stick with the job even if you hate it, but that's only going to apply in a very few special cases.

I would do it if it won't take much of my time, I mean if I can still do something else when I got home to compensate for the boredom I got from the job. Whether you like it or not its a job and you are good at it so its better to take advantage of it to receive easy money.

It may depend on the situation. I think there are many people that do just that. They dislike their jobs but stay because they are good at it, it's easier than finding a new job (especially in this economy), and they live for the time outside of work. It's nice in theory to say that we would pick up and quit, but that very well might depend on the salary one makes. For some people, salary is everything and for some people, no salary is enough to do what they hate. The problem is also that many people do not necessarily know what they would rather do. Or, they think its a pie-in-the-sky type job and won't try for it either.

So, I could see myself staying at a job that I didn't necessarily like if it gave me the hours/money I needed to live.

There is some kind of magical notion that if you aren't working at a job that you love then there must be something wrong with you. I see many people working at jobs everyday that I doubt they enjoy but I also doubt that they would quit. My mother worked for 20 years as a customer service rep. It wasn't because she loved it that's for sure. But she had a steady income, with benefits for the family. So if the job fulfills other aspects of your life that need to be fulfilled then there isn't anything wrong with staying at a job you dislike.

One's livelihood should be one that one enjoys. It is, for me at least, a prerequisite for my overall happiness. For this reason, no matter how adept or gifted I were at something, if I did not enjoy it, I would not devote my life to it.

Besides, we are all expendable. No matter how good we think we can be at something, there are hundreds, thousands, if not millions of others that are just as good or better than ourselves.

So toil over that which you are passionate about and allow others to do the same. In the end, society is best served this way.

No. Even doing job I like if the company is unbearable is hellish enough. Why would I spend most of my time not feeling good and stressed out? It would have to be in dire circumstances for me to take on job I hate. But I believe if you pursue the job you love, even at the beginning it doesn't pay too well, you slowly can build your career to be more succesful.

No, life is way too short to not completely enjoy what you are doing, job or no job. Chances are that you are spending a great percentage of your day at work and so you will have spent a major portion of your life doing a job that you never truly liked let alone enjoyed. Doing something simply because you have gotten good at it over time relieves you of risk and would be taking the easy way out of what can be a very complex situation. Quitting your job would entail first having to find another one that would not only pay you as much as your current one (or more, hopefully) but would more closely resemble the job duties that you would enjoy for a very long time. Oftentimes, we cannot simply switch jobs, however, even if there were a greater number of jobs available on the market today. Sometimes the things in life that interest us the most are farther away then we might think. For example, you might not be able to work in a certain field yet (even if it comprised your dream job) if your current educational background and work experience are not relevant for this particular field, and so you would first have to invest a number of years going back to school and obtaining a degree or certificate before you could even pursue your dream job. In many cases, furthering your education is very beneficial and an obtainable goal, but you must be sure that this is something that you can truly afford to do at that particular time in your life (financially and in respect to your family status). Putting everything on hold and furthering your education is oftentimes very difficult to realize. Of course you would not want to be the person that wasted their entire life (40 or 50+ years) at a job that they hated just to ensure job security and take the less risky route.

No, that is why I went out on my own. You cannot retain your mental health and wake up every morning to go to a place you don't like. You cannot function in this type of enviorment either to be productive. Stress brings on many diseases.
