Would you rather carry a MacBook (Pro/Air/Normal) or an iPad to school/uni? Why?

it's more powerful, has a dvd drive
has a real key board (i'm mostly worried about getting my screen smudged)
and most importantly i can close it and not worry about it getting scratched up.
And if I drop it, it's a little safer.
