Would you join/participate on a Mahalo Answers bulletin board?

Why or why not?

Would it be fair to have one available only to specific (more active) users? Should it be open to everyone?

Thoughts?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I can see a Mahalo Answers community being helpful for those who want to make suggestions for improvements or other comments.

We will have a Mahalo Answers bulletin board system in the New Year, and like many are mentioning it will not include points so you don't have to worry about using up your questions/answers quotas in here (or folks answering just to get points, etc).

Truthfully the point system is not going to ultimately decide the top belt levels--the quality of answers will. As I've mentioned it will take about two months of solid activity to get to Brown belt, and when you do get the points to reach brown belt your account will be reviewed to see if you gave good answers or if you were doing one word answers/had poor grammar and spelling, etc.

So, the point system is really one of two qualifiers.

I've been also thinking about putting a minimum number of "best answers" to reach purple and above. So, you can't just answers questions... you have to get a couple of *best* answers to advance. :-)

Also, at some point we may only allow Green or Purple and above answer the money questions. So, you'll start in the system and have to prove yourself in the non-money questions for a week before being able to do the money questions... how cool would that be!? :-)

That's all in the future... right now we're thrilled with the quality level over all. We're purposely going slow with this to a) build a community, b) work out the issues (i.e. suicide, drug, etc. questions), and c) remove the disruptors.

As a community we nee to have zero tolerance for anyone who is in the system other than to help folks. You guys have done an EXCELLENT job of hitting the report key on bad behavior, and we can really act quickly when you do.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I love the idea of certain belt levels being able to answer the money questions. This would really help weed out the people that are joining for reasons other than helping the community!

I am also a fan of having a certain number of "best answers" in order to move on to a new belt. Just because someone is coming into the community and answering a bunch of questions doesn't mean they have been benificial to the community to the tune of a new belt level!

Side note: I think creating further benchmarks besides points to get to each belt past green or even past yellow is a great idea.

The only thing that I want is more people with problems, with big, serious M$100 problems. IMHO, the main focus should be on attracting people to the system. And on eliminating those bloody undecided questions. I've seen some (very smart, intelligent) guy fighting for an undecided M$3 question with 13 clones, I kid you not. And the best part? I don't blame him! I'm not even going to tell who it is. It's not him, it's the system that encourages this. When you see that you come here every day to give the best out of you, and all you get is 4 legit mahalo bucks... What could you do more?

As for me, I'm not pretentious, but right now I could barely leave the house - half would be spent on drinks and half on getting access to a club, on one night.

Great success.

I don't see what the point of a separate message board would be unless you wanted to keep a certain type of question off of Mahalo Answers.

After a few days I am getting tired of the questions that some people are asking just to ask questions and get the points. I am hoping that these questions will stop after a few weeks as people stop responding... Maybe things like this could be discussed on a separate message board?

It wouldn't really be a place for "seperate" questions. More of a place for users to go to give ideas and work together to figure out the best way to help support Mahalo.

I've seen several people make the comment about people who "ask questions just to get the points." First, you gain more points by providing quality answers than by asking questions. The most you can get for a nontipped question is 2 points--and that's when you choose the best answer. If you tip, you get 2 points per M$.

You get 2 points for answering any open question and 4 points for answering it within the first hour. So, you asking question is not the best way to gain points.

(And I'm sure people will think that I'm trying to gain an extra point by refuting it--but I AM refuting a fact and including a source.)

It sounds like a great idea, but this is sort of like a bulletin board. You can ask questions about the Mahalo Community within the Answers here. I am comfortable answering questions right inside here. As things improve, there probably be less questions about how to use the service, and more questions about everything else. I believe there will always be questions about the service though, and it's important that they stay within the Mahalo Answers Community, as not everyone would join a bulletin board. I believe it would be nice to have a separate set of questions about Mahalo Answers in the Mahalo Community section. This way, we keep people answering questions in Mahalo Answers.

I agree with... "I believe it would be nice to have a separate set of questions about Mahalo Answers in the Mahalo Community section."

I think these types of questions and answer should not have any quotas and/or points. Since they are based upon the Community and improving it. There should be an area for suggestions, ideas, bugs, etc.

What do you think?

I think this section does need to get used more often (though I have noticed more questions in this section recently which is good).

I think the point of a separate site would be more for the fact that an open discussion could take place and chats among members would be possible. Clearly we can have 'mini' conversations here at Mahalo but doing so takes away slightly from the purpose of answering the questions. The separate bulletin board could be used for random conversations that really don't have a direct connection to specific questions that might exist here but instead have a purpose of giving a broader understanding of the service as a whole among the members.

As I stated above "I think these types of questions and answer should not have any quotas and/or points. Since they are based upon the Community and improving it. There should be an area for suggestions, ideas, bugs, etc."

This is all well and good; however, it is very limited on what you can say and do... and you're limited by quotas (as I stated before). Also, it isn't free form (as a bulletin board is).

It would be a place people could go to discuss things related to Mahalo Answers as well as offer advice, support, and a sounding board.

Consider it a place where people can interact in a different manner than just asking and answering questions.
