Would you consider reading the Twilight Saga books by Stephenie Meyers, or do you consider these to be books for teens/preteens?

I do consider them for teens and pre-teens mostly, but I might consider reading them just so I can talk about them with the Twilight obsessed 12-year-old in my life. Of course, I was going to read the Harry Potter books for the same reason, and by the time I read the first one, she was already on to Twilight.

So, I'll probably see the movies, but I have better books to read and limited time to read them.

I have read the whole Twilight Saga three times since last November!

When my students first told me about Twilight I did think it was only for teens. They went on and on about it for months, which is unusual for a movie. I had not heard kids go on and on about movies or books that way since Harry Potter.

I really had no interest in reading the books or seeing the movies until I saw the previews on TV for New Moon. Then, for whatever reason, I was intrigued. I rented Twilight and then I saw New Moon in the theater. I immediately borrowed all four books, and like the other poster I finished reading them all inside of a week. I simply had to know what happened. I have since read them two more times through.

I belong to several forums where the Twilight Saga is discussed. There is much criticism of Stephanie Meyer as a writer. There are many minor plot holes and glitches that you don't notice on the first read because she is so good at pulling heart strings, but these errors come out on the second or third read. To be fair to SM though, she did not write Twilight for publication. It was dream that she had and she wrote it all down for herself. Her sister convinced her to publish, reluctantly, and then her publisher convinced her to write New Moon and Eclipse before publishing the sequel that she had started.

Fans who don't know about the draft that SM started of Twilight from Edward's point of view, Midnight Sun, will be pleasantly surprised that they can read all 300+ pages of it on SM's website. The draft was leaked and it made SM so sad that she stopped working on this planned epilogue novel. She decided to make the draft available guilt-free to all her fans, though. We are grateful, but we still hope that someday she finishes writing Midnight Sun.

I would never read the Twilight series, they don't sound like my type of thing. But I've heard they have some pretty mature themes in them, so no, I don't consider them exclusivley for teens and preteens.

I don't consider them to be just for teens. As a matter of fact I have read the whole saga and it was very well written and kept me on the edge of my seat. I read all four books in a week so, you might say I couldn't put them down. :)

Hell no. This isn't a question about what age group they're targeting; it's about what messages they're pushing. For instance:

- According to Twilight, it's A-OK if your boyfriend is a creepy obsessive stalker who sneaks in through your window, keeps you from your friends, disables your car so you don't go places, etc. It's a sign of love.

- According to Twilight, if you're a woman, your only role in life is to get married, have children and be completely subservient to your boyfriend to the point where you even have to be carried around -- unless you're a Special Mary Sue Snowflake like Bella and get to become completely flawless (while still skipping out on college and the workforce)

- According to Twilight, sex is dangerous and pre-marital sex is abhorrent, and women are quasi-medieval temptresses who try to make the pure, chaste men fall -- because if they do, they won't be able to control themselves.

- According to Twilight, threatening to commit suicide because of a relationship is romantic, not a sign that someone really needs mental help.

- According to Twilight, if you wake up after (marital, obviously) sex with bruises all over your body, don't worry -- it's not abuse, your boyfriend can't help it!

- According to Twilight, if you try to force a kiss on someone like Jacob does, all you'll get is a "boys will be boys" laugh from your father, and you won't suffer any real repercussions.

- According to Twilight, it's sweet and adorable when an older man (like Quil) grooms a toddler or even a NEWBORN to eventually have sex with. It's not pedophilia -- it's imprinting!

I could go on and on and on. But here's the last thing I'll post on the subject. Buffy vs. Edward. What should have happened:
