Would you buy this "loopy" painting of Jeff Koons for 5 million dollars?

Jeff Koons, Loopy, 1999 (estimate £2,500,000 – £3,500,000, realized £3,401,250), via Christies.com sold on June 30, 2010

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

NO.

A print of it apparently just sold in November for five THOUSAND dollars. A living artist, signed, perhaps.

This former art dealer would never drop that big a chunk of change on a painting.

He's had other items that are worth millions (see artfacts.net source),with one, "Balloon Flower (Magenta)," of unknown medium, fetching a staggering $23,765,404. (12,921,250 GBP) at Christie's in London in June 2008. I've included a picture--it's huge. The GBP must have taken a good 17-18% fall against the USD since that sale--today, the same amound of GBP comes out to $19,551,708.13.

Especially when you put it up against this painting, as found in the arcadija source:

PABLO PICASSO
NU ASSIS DANS UN FAUTEUIL
Price Realized: 2,752,750 EUR
Sotheby’s – Paris
3 July 2008

That's "only" $3,470,298.18 for a Picasso painting, image #2. A bargain.

I'd sooner go with glass sculpture like Dale Chihully's chandelier at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens in St. Louis, MO. (I just saw it last week.) That sucker is almost 15 feet high and is incredibly gorgeous. But I'm a sucker for glass art. (images provided). I have no idea of its value; I couldn't find anything on that.

Here's the official info on it from chihuly.com:
DALE CHIHULY
BLUE CHANDELIER, 2006
179 x 85 x 85"
INSTALLED JANUARY 12, 2006 AND NOW IN THE PERMANENT COLLECTION
MISSOURI BOTANICAL GARDEN
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

The last image is Chihuly's "Glass on the Water,"also at The Missouri Botanical gardens.

Similar to Koons' Balloon Flower (Magenta)."
