Would Mahalo Answers be improved by a news/comment section for community news?
That said, I'm thinking it's time Mahalo adopted some sort of "headline news" portion of the page. While I like the idea of competing for Mahalo dollars and points as much as anyone else, this sort of announcement doesn't really need to be included as a question. I agree that it's important, but categorization would help in sorting through the tipped questions, regular questions, Conundrumland questions, etc. It's becoming a bit of a mess.
Since I don't believe in complaining without offering suggestions for a fix, how about a tab for community news and announcements, with the newest headline (or three) running as a banner just below the page header so it still gets the attention it deserves? And, because people like Soundboy and new ranks deserve accolades, instead of those of us answering competing for cash and point, the Mahalo money could go to the subject of the question.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You and @jasoncalacanis must be thinking along the same lines!
I'm looking forward to this implementation too. I'm sad that the question sorting is broke. Give one, take one I guess :)

M$I'm in favor of a separate section for all Mahalo related news apart from the Mahalo Answer section because they are really not the same. Some people only wants to browse for news but not participating in Q&A sections, especially like me who can't answer for Conundrum anyway because of error.

The developers are up to something, BBrookin. There's an upgrade that I'm waiting on that hasn't been "pushed" yet and I bet that Jason's policy change / new feature will be implemented soon. I don't think it's a special Jason policy.
I donno about a banner. You're talking a graphic banner, right? If I was the U.I. developer, I would change the right hand column up a bit. I'd add some more relevant / useful information in there. One of the blocks could be a feed of important announcements. The block I suggested was a contest announcement block that lists the most recent contests.
I donno about a moving news ticker. Since nothing else moves on the page, that would draw user attention away from the E block Mahalo has designed.
Technically, I bet that the developers are s.m.r.t. enough to RSS widgets like this for inclusion across the web.
I'm thinking things like this could be set up in something like a news ticker that people are use to on their TV. Important site news could be included in the ticker and if something scrolls across that interest a user they could click on it to go to a more detailed page...
So, if Jason's announcement was on the 5th, and this is the 7th, why the heck did his announcement appear on the home page? Is it a special Jason policy?
I'm also interested in what you think of a home page banner to announce things like the $2,000 site. It's not that I'm against the news - I really want to know about it, and a banner on the home site with the latest headlines would be really useful and remind me to go to the M.A. Community page.
I see your point about the design...
I like the idea of an RSS widget that would include just those post. (that is actually more what my original thought was actually... what I would love to see is a Firefox extension that would allow me to place a scrolling news reader on the page and easily flip it off if I didn't want to see it)
