Would anyone care to critique my first attempt at fashion modeling at the 2009 Hawaii's Most Beautiful Man contest?

I would like to thank everyone here at Mahalo for helping me make this a success! The jeans you see me wearing, I hemmed myself, after asking my first question here about how to do it: http://www.mahalo.com/answers/clothing-types/how-do-i-choose-clothes-that-fit-me-and-how-would-i-alter-them-to-fit-better
I also asked for advice about how to walk down the runway. http://www.mahalo.com/answers/fashion-events/how-do-fashion-models-walk-down-a-runway I have to admit, I was a bit nervous, so I forgot most of what I wanted to do, yet surprisingly I still looked very natural and composed. You can even see me flash a little "shaka sign" to one of the judges, who I was acknowledging. It was actually an exhilarating experience because of all the screaming when I walked down the runway! The sound was deafening! I felt like a rock star! Too bad the sound was not adequately captured by the video.
Also, remember, I am 60 years old, and everyone else is half my age. The youngest contestant was only 17 and still in high school. I think I am holding my own quite beautifully despite what the judges say! Their decision was a little disappointing for me, since I did not even place among the top 6 out of 17 contestants. So maybe I will try again next year. What are the judges looking for?
This event happens once a year and it was just by accident that I saw a flyer for it. http://www.hawaiiwomanexpo.com/index.html
And I am just cross posting this link regarding getting a copy of the promotional broadcast I was in: http://www.mahalo.com/answers/news/is-there-a-place-where-all-tv-broadcasts-are-archived-and-can-they-be-downloaded-i-notice-youtube-has-clips-from-old-broadcasts

For the competition results I have to be quite frank that judges will look for usual good bodies aside from personality and other skills, younger men will just have an advantage. However might I quickly add, I think you look great for your age, I hope I look half that good when I'm 60.
Your performance showed self confidence as I have mentioned and also some playfulness, it seemed as though you were comfortable and you looked like you were enjoying the event. Congratulations on your efforts and on succeeding to make a good figure in such a contest. I think using Mahalo to get tips for such a venue is a great idea, even though it cannot replace years of experience. I dont know much about cat walks and how models or most beautiful men should walk but I do know those people work very hard to get were they are, even if some say its an easy job.
I hope the fact that you didnt make the top 6 will not discourage you and that you will walk confidentaly on many more runways ;-)

M$You showed a remarkable self-confidence and a fearless lack of self-consciousness while competing in this contest it is quite amazing. I would have predicted a top three outcome based on these "inner beauties".
Good luck next year.

M$Thank you buddawiggi for noticing and applauding my "fearless pursuit" to satisfy my "curiosities." I'm quite tickled by your words, your particular choice, your candor, insight and appreciation! Well, this is why I am so enthusiastic about Mahalo, and this platform that supports me and others to do this. What an exciting community to be in!
And you have given me encouragement, as tomorrow (at aged 50) I am about to go on a TV show called "Change Your Look....Change Your Life!" and was very nervous about it, but hey, if you can do it SO CAN I!
Thanks

M$Yes you can! I'm so happy you told me that my sharing of my experiences here could be of some help and inspiration to you. Thank you. Now it is your turn to step into the light! Good luck on your debut!
And dare I even post it up on the internet, so you can all see who I am "now" and who I am about to "become?" If I can work up the courage, I will!

You certainly have a very very interesting character, I like when someone has a deeper and more complex personality and is open for new things. Hope my comments were helpful
and @buddawiggi thank you so much for the nomination! :)
Just cross posting the link to Answer of the Day for September 15, 2009:

Thank you again!
Fantastic answer and a winner!
Hi nickunderscore Thank you for your appreciative comments and noticing my apparent self-confidence and "playfulness." Actually, I surprised myself. Normally, I never have sweaty palms, but while awaiting my turn, while holding onto a back stage rail, I noticed the sweat and actually accepted it, was curious about it. Fortunately, there were spotters back stage, cueing all of us when to step forward, whispering what was going to happen next, etc. it was all very well planned. I noticed the other contestants were also nervous. The winner had done modeling in the past, and he was tall, a head taller than myself. Until I entered this contest, I did not realize that models are so tall. Just like basketball players are tall. These observations are all so interesting to me. Things you don't realize until you attempt it yourself. For me, I am at a stage in life, where I could enter just for fun of it and not care if I won or not. Others in the group were trying to get noticed professionally, as there were talent scouts floating around. I believe last years winner got a modeling contract as a result of this contest.
Viewing the video, I can see I was really beaming! My wife told me afterwards but until I saw the video, I did not realize how composed I appeared. In fact, I was having my wife trying to videotape me, and I noticed on stage that the camera was not in the record mode, and I had no way of signaling her. But I did not lose my composure, although I felt very disappointed that my debut was not captured. So I am so glad someone else posted the video, and so quickly. Next year, I'm thinking as part of my "routine" maybe I will play tourist, and bring a camera on stage to film myself while posing. I actually thought of doing it this time, but I was told that I would not be allowed to have a camera backstage. And also, if I did win, I didn't want my photographs showing me doing this. It was quite an experience when I arrived at the front of the runway, when a dozen flashes went off or so it seemed!
Hi @nickunderscore I am nominating this interesting and helpful answer for the Sept 14th Answer of the day!
