Would anyone care to share their views about what is happening with the Honolulu Symphony? A set of links to important news articles and/or

your personal views are welcome. From what I can gather, it seems negotiations between the board and union are not going very well and perhaps at an impasse. What is happening in the bankruptcy court is completely opaque to me. If you have up to date information that you would like to distribute,. Mahalo.com is one possible avenue to make your observations, feelings, needs and requests known. Mahalo is an open system, so whatever you share is goes into the public domain. If you Google 'Honolulu Symphony bankruptcy', you will discover that the first Mahalo link in the sources below is within the top 10 hits currently. So if you write something here, it may get seen by more people, if you have a message to deliver.

Having said that, I might mention that when you ask a question "anonymously" your Mahalo handle does not get attached to the question, so by this means, you could conceivably 'leak' information, although I do not know how robust the system is. Certainly, not like Wikileaks.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It appears that the symphony has had several years of running in the red. The first link below is from April, 2009. The musicians had not received any pay for 3 months. From the article, the musicians were feeling the financial hardship. Even after bankruptcy reorganization, employees are the last debtor to be paid.

Thank you for asking the question. I had the privilege to sing under Sidney Rothstein, founder of the Honolulu Symphony Chorus, several times.
