Would a gerbil mate with a hamster?
Not necessarily reproduce, but say a female hamster was in a cage with a male gerbil for whatever reason, and the hamster went into heat, would the gerbil want to mate with her? Just curious...

The hamster would most likely kill the gerbil before they would have a chance to "fall in love". Hamsters are solitary animals and very territorial. A gerbil, although a different species, would be seen as infringing on the hamster's territory. Also, a hamster is likely to eat a gerbil once it kills the gerbil. I highly recommend keeping the two separate and, therefore, safe from each other.
