Would (1/0) - (1/0) be equivalent to 0 or be undefined?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It is undefined. Remember the order of operations. (1/0) = undefined so (1/0)-(1/0) is essentially (undefined) - (undefined) which would be undefined. Similarly (and this may be a bit of a stretch) infinity - infinity is not 0 but also undefined.

As written, it is undefined. If you want to write it in a way that will be defined, you need to use the notation of limits:

Lim_(x -> 0) (1/x - 1/x) = 0

It's undefined because any number over 0 is undefined.
