Worst Case Scenario Survival Questions: What is worse, Scuba diving and running out of air or skydiving with a parachute that doesn't open?

Reserve parachutes must be packed perfectly to deploy correctly.

Suffocation is a long, slow death.

Even if you try to save yourself by holding onto a jumping companion, the shock of the chute opening will dislocate your back or break your legs

Failing to exhale continuously while surfacing can cause embolism.

I would rather be the skydiver. The first reason is that I have never done this, and it sounds exhilarating! At least I will enjoy my last seconds of life! Well, maybe not after I realize that the parachute is not opening. The second reason, is that there are cases of survival. In the sources is one survivors tale of fright. This is what Mikey Holmes says about the last second:

"5 feet
I pretty much remember all the way till the second before I hit. I landed in a blackberry bush. On the video, you can see my hands go out, almost to save myself. I guess that was just instinct. I don't actually remember hitting the ground. I impacted on my side, and that sent a shock wave through my whole body and knocked me out cold. I was severely bruised on the left side of my body and swollen pretty much everywhere. I had cuts on my face and my body, a collapsed and punctured right lung, and a broken ankle. And when I hit the ground, it was like I was dead. It was like I'd been turned off."

Also, I posted a news clip of a window washer falling 47 stories and living to tell the tale!

I also posted another YouTube video of a close call when the main parachute malfunctioned, but at least the backup worked. Whew!

This is a tough question. I'm going to have to go with skydiving with a parachute that doesn't open is worse. It took me a while to think this one through. I decided on the skydiving one because when parachuting, you try to open your parachute pretty high up in the air. Thats a really really long, and scary fall. You would probably try to land in a big tree or bushes to survive, but even with a very slim chance to survive, it would be a lot worse. Just the thought of falling that far is scary, even with a good parachute. When Scuba diving, you are usually attached to a rope, and they could hopefully pull you up in time to save you. The long slow death might give you a chance to save yourself. Smashing down onto concrete, you are for sure dead.

i would say running out of air and drowning, probably because drowning slow and it would be more painful, also if dislocate your back and legs you have a greater chance of passing out not to mention when you hit the ground you would most likely die instantly (i would rather die instantly rather then suffering through it)
