Cheney's lies have all been debunked in the past.
Quotes from: IRAQ: PRIME MINISTER'S MEETING, 23 JULY
"Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."
"US had already begun "spikes of activity" to put pressure on the regime".
"It seemed clear that Bush had made up his mind to take military action, even if the timing was not yet decided. But the case was thin. Saddam was not threatening his neighbours, and his WMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea or Iran."
Quotes from Jack Straw Memo - March 25, 2002:
"In addition, there has been no credible evidence to link Iraq with UBL and Al Qaida."

>We've had this debate that keeps people trying to conflate those arguments. >That's not to say that Saddam was responsible for 9/11. It is to say as >George Tenet, the CIA Director, testified in open session in the Senate, that >there was a relationship there that went back 10 years.
As Darcy puts it, he is clearly saying "I think we did the right thing because this was the belief at the time."

How was Saddam Hussein linked to Al Qaeda?
I thought this was debunked long ago...however in an Interview that will be aired tonight on PBS Dick Cheney continues along the lines that they are linked?

Q But Mr. Vice President, getting from there to here, 4,500 Americans have died, at least 100,000 Iraqis have died. Has it been worth that?
THE VICE PRESIDENT: I think so.
Q Why?
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Because I believed at the time what Saddam Hussein represented was, especially in the aftermath of 9/11, was a terror-sponsoring state so designated by the State Department. He was making payments to the families of suicide bombers. He provided a safe haven and sanctuary for Abu Nidal and other terrorist operations. He had produced and used weapons of mass destruction, chemical and biological agents. He'd had a nuclear program in the past. He killed hundreds of thousands of his own people. And he did have a relationship with al Qaeda.

I think the answer to your question is in the next part of Cheney's quote, which you did not include: >We've had this debate that keeps people trying to conflate those arguments. >That's not to say that Saddam was responsible for 9/11. It is to say as >George Tenet, the CIA Director, testified in open session in the Senate, that >there was a relationship there that went back 10 years.

- Fact Refuted
Published primary records of the time have showed that the Bush regime knew that Iraq had no connection Al Qaida..

Geez, man, consider what "fact refuted" actually means before you hit it. I cut a quote out of the source article! I don't think anybody here is saying that they *believe* what Cheney is saying. I think he's lying through his teeth when he says Hello to people in the morning. But the question used the example of Cheney saying "there was a connection" to ask what the connection was, and we are pointing out that what he was really saying, whether it was true or not, whether he is knowingly lying or not, is that the particular quote about there being a connection between Saddam and al Qaeda was spoken of in the past, not now. Sure he's lying, sure he's an evil bastard who shot somebody in the face, blah blah blah. But that's irrelevant to the context of the question.
