Guess who started wearing purple?
RSS
I just want to say nushka, congratulations! It is great to achieve purple - and for me, that dream is a long way off! (I'm only tipped with purple, so I'm close!)
Anyway, your question of the meaning - it was written for a girl and this is what it says in one of his interviews.
It's one of the very few songs I wrote for a girl. I just moved in with my girlfriend in New York. We had a neighbour: an old woman who was always dressed in purple head to toe. She was clearly bonkers. So whenever my girlfriend and I had an argument and she would start screaming at me, I would say: you might as well start wearing purple now".
He also used it in conjunction with Yahoo for Yahoo has a strong liking for purple! http://startwearingpurple.yahoo.com/

Guess who started wearing purple?
To celebrate I'm asking about the meaning of Gogol Bordello's song "Start wearing purple"
Pretty sure it is not about a Mahalo belt.
