If "Average Joe" is the term used to talk about the everyday guy, then what term should be used to describe the everyday woman?

I know that many places use Jane Public, but those are the same places that use John Q. Public instead of Average Joe, so I'm going to say "Average Jane" as well.
Plus, a Google search for "Average Jane" returned 250K+ results, so I'd say it's in wide usage.

If you're Christian, it would definitely be "Average Mary".
Otherwise, I'd probably go with "Average Joanne".

I'd go for "Average Jane". I like that because:
- It sounds right
- People will see the analogy with Average Joe. Similar phrase, similar sound.
- The equivalent of John Doe is Jane Doe. So Jane is quite well recognised as "a name used for an unknown female".

Average Jane seems to be what I've always heard. Or Mary Jane. But since Mary has been in name limbo for around 30-40 years, it's no longer a commonly-given name.
Though the term is probably more derogatory than its counterpart, "Susie/Suzy Homemaker" was a phrase in common use in decades past, though it may not be contemporary to "Average Joe".
Mediocre Jane. Not because i like 'mediocre' better then 'average.' Only to shake things up a bit.
Average Jane, would be my guess. Common name, much like Joe, and with a female description.

I'd say Plain Jane, that seems to be more common than Average Jane. I do agree though, that the equivalent should be Jane something.
Average Jane!
