Can you help me design a logo for my site?

I have a blog which I started about 8 months ago...it is where I write about technology and it has been doing really well for me. I do it for fun, and I enjoy it.... However, I like to make it look good....but I feel as though the logo is not doing it justice. Can you guide me on how to create a new logo? Perhaps a web 2.0 based site? Here is my blog, http://2s2d.net - the logo I want to change is at the very top....

Are you looking to change the logo or the site?

I ask because you mention "perhaps a web 2.0 based site". Or are you wanting to use a web-based web 2.0 site to design it?

There are a lot of great designers here... but you won't catch their attention for designing your logo unless you are willing to pay a little for it... I've seen some great work, but some of those people don't have a lot of time and don't even look at questions with small tip amounts.

Designing a decent logo takes talent and sometimes a bit of time. =) Put it out with a big tip and you'll see lot of logos to choose from.

PS. I think your blog layout is very nice.

Thanks for the compliments on the blog...I try. :)
I was looking for a web 2.0 site to design it...but if I can find a designer by way of offering a high tip then that also works. Problem is, I dont know how to increase the tip value and or time for the question to stay alive.

oh. ok. sorry that i wasn't clear on what you were asking.

if you don't come up with one yourself that you like and want to attract designers, I suggest just posting a new question with all the details on what you are looking for and then you can make the tip higher.

there are some great suggestions from other members so far, though. hope all the info helps you.

HI All,
I am sorry...but had to select no best answer since I want to offer a larger tip for the help and dont feel it fair for others to have to tip for this answer.. It helps me directly and thus it would be fair to re-do it properly. Thanks.

Hi

Well, the best and professional way is to hire someone's services who is has a good portfolio and truly understands the work and requirement.

I have seen your blog and it is very good.

Nowadays, you will find many expert artists performing freelance jobs. www.elance.com and www.scriplance.com are amongst many websites where you can hire a professional logo maker.

The reason I am referring you to freelance designers is that they are professionals. You may also create one through some software but that would be an amateur effort.

Since you claim that your blog is hitting an increasing traffic. It is suggested that you put a professionally made logo on your blog. It will give a very professional look.

The best part on these websites is that you pay only then when you are satisfied by the result provided by the artist. Moreover, you may find alot of designers willing to do your job.

I hope it answers your question :)

Have a nice day.

You must identify first the colors you'd like to use in your logo. For your case, it seemed that you wanted Red and Black. You can start from there.

You base your logo to the type of business you have. For instance you blog about technology, so why not incorporate some techie stuff there. Maybe a CD will do or something else about technology.

Since you want something web 2.0 based logo, try creating an upbeat feel with your logo. Try making it look modern by using vectored highlight within the image.

You can view these sites for you to create your own logo!
http://www.logomaker.com/
http://www.logoease.com/
http://thefreelogomakers.com/

I still recommend you doing your own logo than using those sites for you to get what you really want. With Photoshop or Paint.net, you can easily create you logo. Just follow some guidelines I specified above and you're good to go. :) For Photoshop help, you can browse online for some tutorials. ^^

First off, your blog look great. I do agree that you will need a better logo. The one you are looking to change is the banner at the top, correct? I think you should post more information about what you want the logo to look like, the dimensions of the logo, what type of file you want it to be, etc.

If you want to try to make your own, you can use GIMP. It's like photoshop, but you can download it for free. There are also many tutorials on how to use GIMP online. The best ones I have found were video tutorials made by GimpKnowHow and posted on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/user/GimpKnowHow

You can download GIMP at www.gimp.org

Thanks for the compliments on the blog. Yes the banner at the top.
It is 881x105px.
The logo should naturally have 2S2D in it, and perhaps the same colors...since it is now recognized by many.

I would come up with a design brief for your logo first. Check out http://www.davidairey.com/how-do-you-write-a-graphic-design-brief/ for an outline of a brief as well as some tips on creating one - http://www.davidairey.com/10-tips-for-writing-graphic-design-briefs/

As for websites to find a designer, some of the ones mentioned above are great. However, I would highly recommend checking out 99designs - http://99designs.com/ - what's cool about their service is that you set the reward amount and provide the design brief. You then get a bunch of different designs from many designers. Whomever you decide has the best logo is the designer that gets the award. It's much less risky than trying to find one designer ahead of time. It also gives you a wider variety of designs that you might not get if working with one designer.

Good luck! Mike
