Women over 35: What vitamins / supplements do you swear by, and how do they work for you?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I'm 43 and start the day with a glass of orange juice (not from concentrate), take a vitamin B complex tablet, Evening Primrose and fish oil capsules (1g each) after breakfast, and a magnesium oxide tablet before bed. They help regulate my hormones, give me energy and improve concentration.

I use a number of things:

To make sure the major vitamins and minerals all have the catalysts they need:

High vitamin cod liver oil and butter oil blend from Green Pastures (for A&D and factors in the both oils)
Magna-Calm ionic magnesium
Vitamin C
Potassium
(I get plenty of calcium through my diet)
These above all depend on each other to catalyze each other.
~~
That hits the major things for celullar metabolism. Then:

Timed Release B-Complex
Cinnamon (for metabolic disorder)
L-Lysine
Biotin (for hair/skin strength)
Pycnogenol (antioxidant)
vitamin E
kombucha

I have a metabolic disorder that means I can't eat some things, so I have to supplement more than other people, especially with antioxidants. I eat a mostly organic, whole-foods traditional nutrition diet modified for my needs, so I get higher levels of some nutrients through my diet.

For me, it's anti-aging, anti-illness, pro-energy. Knock on wood, but I'm 43 and on no prescription drugs and have had no major illnesses, other than the endocrine system disorder that developed during my last pregnancy and *is reversible*.

My secret... I take "One A Day Women's Prenatal" and NO, I am most definitely not pregnant.

Since my friend (a Doctor) suggested it 2 months ago, I have noticed more energy, better sleep, healthier nails, lustrous hair and it gives me all the recommended daily allowances I need, as well as all the health benefits of the Folic Acid.

It appears to reduce the risk of stroke, it has been suggested that folate may help prevent cancer and evidence links low levels of folate with depression.

In a 3-year trial on 818 people over the age of 50, short-term memory, mental agility and verbal fluency were all found to be better among people who took 800 micrograms of folic acid daily.

Here are the Supplement Facts:

Serving Size: One tablet
Amount Per Serving % Daily Value
Vitamin A (50% as beta-carotene) 4000 IU 50%
Vitamin C 60 mg 100%
Vitamin D 400 IU 100%
Vitamin E 30 IU 100%
Thiamin (B1) 1.7 mg 100%
Riboflavin (B2) 2 mg 100%
Niacin 20 mg 100%
Vitamin B6 2.5 mg 100%
Folic Acid 800 mcg 100%
Vitamin B12 8 mcg 100%
Biotin 300 mcg 100%
Pantothenic Acid 10 mg 100%
Calcium (elemental) 300 mg 23%
Iron 28 mg 156%
Iodine 150 mcg 100%
Magnesium 50 mg 11%
Zinc 15 mg 100%
Copper 2 mg 100%
