Windows XP ZIP files password protected how secure?

I'm a security professional so no lectures needed. I'm just trying to find out how secure native Windows XP zip files are that have a password added to them are. Are they encrypted in any way if so with what cipher. Is the password hashed if so with what alogorithm. Are there known exploits. Other than brute force is there any other real issues?

I believe Windows XP generates password protected zip files using the simple password-based symmetric encryption system that is part of the ZIP specification. This method is known to be seriously flawed.
